The updates in this article will see this portfolio reach 30.1% of the goal
Last week’s change: +2.3%
This came from 1.1% portfolio growth and a further 1.2% from additional investment.
US and China Tariff Policies
Trump announced plans to reduce tariffs imposed on China from 145% to 30%. China has reciprocated by cutting its 125% tariff to 10%. These changes will be in place for 90 days, after which they will either be reimposed or reviewed.
This has significantly boosted market confidence in US stocks and has been a major contributor to this week’s growth in my portfolio. One company I hold shares in that could benefit from this development is Amazon, especially with their upcoming Prime Day sales. No doubt they’ll be aiming to maximise profits while tariffs remain low.
Cameco
There’s been a threat that Cameco may apply a 10% surcharge on sales to the US, in response to Trump’s proposed 10% tariff on Canadian energy exports.
This caused a small dip in Cameco’s stock price. Despite this, it continues on a strong upward trend since its low at the end of March 2025.
Dividends
Realty Income paid a dividend of $0.2685 per share this week. Although my current holding is small, it’s encouraging to see consistent monthly payouts. I received £1.11—a humble start, but it’s rewarding to see the snowball beginning to roll. It reinforces how this kind of income can really scale with a larger holding.
Procter & Gamble also paid out this week, with my portion coming in at £0.82.
Lastly, Sandvik paid £1.69 for the five shares I hold.
Though these are modest amounts, between dividends and interest on cash, the portfolio saw £3.72 in passive income this week. It’s a clear reminder of how dividends can contribute meaningfully over time.
This Week’s Investments
Following the progress made this week, I’ll be investing £120 across three stocks, split evenly at £40 each:
- Vanguard S&P 500 ETF – A consistently stable bet.
- AECOM – I believe this company has real potential to drive growth in the portfolio, particularly with promising future earnings reports on the horizon.
- Cameco – My hopeful wildcard for a strong jump towards the end of the annum.
Over the next few weeks, I plan to increase the amount invested weekly to push closer to the gold standard of this challenge: £10,000 before January 2026.
Onwards and upwards!
